Developers and publishers were quick to re-release their classic games, updating them for modern hardware.  It seemed only a matter of time, then, before Resident Evil 2 received the same treatment.  After all, it is recognized as one of the best survival horror games of all time<\/p>\n<p>With the remake released in 2019, many modern players could try Resident Evil 2 for the first time.  This is because the original was released way back in 1998 for the PS1.  Of course, as with any remaster, the question remains whether such an old game will hold up after two decades.<\/p><div id=\"forum-1154604258\" class=\"forum-content-2 forum-entity-placement\">\t\t<div class=\"ad-wrapper\" style=\"width:100%;min-height:250px;text-align:center\">\r\n\t\t\t<!-- In Article Blog -->\r\n\t\t\t<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n\t\t\t\t style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\"\r\n\t\t\t\t data-ad-layout=\"in-article\"\r\n\t\t\t\t data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n\t\t\t\t data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3476569516614521\"\r\n\t\t\t\t data-ad-slot=\"9829044906\"><\/ins>\r\n\t\t\t<script>\r\n\t\t\t\t (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n\t\t\t<\/script>\r\n\t\t<\/div><\/div>\n<h2>History<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/forum.sbenny.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Resident-Evil-2-2019-review.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27564\"  ><\/figure>\n<p>Resident Evil 2 takes place a few months after its predecessor.  The zombie outbreak has now spread across Raccoon City.  Players take on the roles of Leon and Claire in separate stories that are unlocked after completing the main campaign.  Capcom stayed true to the original formula most of the time.  However, they also made some significant changes to certain scenes and moments to take advantage of the performance upgrades.  So, those who played the original to the death will still find a lot of fun.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, one complaint I have is that the different campaigns all look too similar.  While locations and missions change somewhat, each is more of a reworked experience than a brand new campaign.  The only real differences are completing objectives in new orders and meeting certain enemies at different points.  The big story elements and plot details remain constant on them.  Those who love Resident Evil 2 will enjoy it.  But for everyone else, they are something that will likely remain intact. The controls have changed to give you the ability to move freely.  However, much of the action is the same as before.  The main mechanic involves shooting zombies and solving puzzles.  This new improved version also includes extra and collectible difficulty modes.  A few twists have been incorporated along the way to ensure this feels like a new game.<\/p>\n<p>One of the best things about Resident Evil 2 is the huge range of enemies.  Almost all of them are tough.  They can take multiple shots from your gun and can deal a great deal of damage if you get close.  For example, the mighty monsters Tyrant and Licker add real variety to fight and keep things fresh.<\/p><div id=\"forum-1034879030\" class=\"forum-content-3 forum-entity-placement\">\t\t<div class=\"ad-wrapper\" style=\"width:100%;min-height:250px;text-align:center\">\r\n\t\t\t<!-- In Article Blog -->\r\n\t\t\t<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n\t\t\t\t style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\"\r\n\t\t\t\t data-ad-layout=\"in-article\"\r\n\t\t\t\t data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n\t\t\t\t data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3476569516614521\"\r\n\t\t\t\t data-ad-slot=\"9829044906\"><\/ins>\r\n\t\t\t<script>\r\n\t\t\t\t (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n\t\t\t<\/script>\r\n\t\t<\/div><\/div>\n<p><center class=\"native_ad\"><\/p>\n<p>\t<!-- Composite Start --><\/p>\n<p>\t<!-- Composite End --><br \/>\n<\/center><\/p>\n<p>You also need to carefully manage your inventory.  Ensuring you are well stocked with ammunition and other essential equipment is critical to staying alive.  So you have to be very careful about scavenging.  Otherwise, you will run out of articles at a vital time.  This will inevitably end with your death or at least force you to retrace your steps.<\/p>\n<p>As a survival horror game, it works well.  Each scene is full of tension.  The drama of knowing that a new evil may be lurking around every corner creates a palpable atmosphere.  Walking through an area often can feel more like you&#8217;ve managed to squeak and survive.  By creating this sense of yourself just to survive each encounter, you are permanently on the edge.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h2>Presentation<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/gammicks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Screenshot-5-2-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7161\"><\/figure>\n<p>Capcom hasn&#8217;t opted for an iffy remaster with Resident Evil 2. While many remakes keep trying to update graphics and performance, this edition is a complete rework.  The developer built it from scratch.  It now uses the same engine used by Resident Evil 7, giving it a stunning look.  The zombies are some of the best you will see in any video game and the environments are all beautifully rendered.  Characters have detailed expressions and react to the world around them.  It also means there are no loading screens.  Everything runs smoothly and without problems.<\/p>\n<p>Arguably the best aspect of the presentation, however, is the excellent sound design.  The original game purposely limited the amount of music.  Although controversial, it has been an effective means of increasing terror.  Without a distracting sheet music, you can hear every little bump and crunch.  Being able to sense approaching enemies increases the eerie atmosphere, as does all the extra sound effects.  Playing with headphones or a good sound system is a terrifying but delightful experience.<\/p>\n<h2>Final verdict<\/h2>\n<p>Despite the large number of remakes in recent years, Resident Evil 2 stands out.  It manages not only to improve every aspect of the original, but also makes several useful additions.  Capcom showed what they were capable of with Resident Evil 7, but this title is more impressive.  Making so many improvements while keeping the spirit of the original alive is difficult.  But they did justice to a 21-year-old game and updated it for the modern audience.
