Their games, including Quantum Break, Max Payne and Alan Wake, are known for gory stories with paranormal and psychological elements.  Control is no different in this respect.  Like the other Remedy games, this 2019 action-adventure features a mysterious story and is played from a third-person perspective.<\/p>\n<p>The question is whether Control is an evolution of Remedy&#8217;s work or just a rehash of some of their older concepts. Storytelling is the front and center of the experience.  You take on the role of Jesse Faden.  When he was a child he experienced something called a paranatural event in his hometown.  These altered world events are supernatural phenomena that bend normal reality and can have profound consequences for humanity.  The narrative focuses on these events and the organization set up to investigate them.  This secret group is called the Federal Bureau of Control.<\/p>\n<p>Without going into too much detail, as I wouldn&#8217;t want to spoil it for any reader, the story is fantastic.  After witnessing an altered world event, FBC takes Jesse&#8217;s brother.  Seventeen years later, he shows up at their headquarters to try to find out exactly what happened to his missing brother.  Not long after entering the Oldest House, Jesse finds the FBC chief dead and a powerful gun.  The service weapon gives her a variety of new powers and puts her in control of the dark organization.<\/p><div id=\"forum-4028619380\" class=\"forum-content forum-entity-placement\">\t\t<div class=\"ad-wrapper\" style=\"width:100%;min-height:250px;text-align:center\">\r\n\t\t\t<!-- In Article Blog -->\r\n\t\t\t<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n\t\t\t\t style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\"\r\n\t\t\t\t data-ad-layout=\"in-article\"\r\n\t\t\t\t data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n\t\t\t\t data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3476569516614521\"\r\n\t\t\t\t data-ad-slot=\"9829044906\"><\/ins>\r\n\t\t\t<script>\r\n\t\t\t\t (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n\t\t\t<\/script>\r\n\t\t<\/div><\/div>\n<p>While it may seem like a rather reworked story, the way the action unfolds is magnificent.  The pacing is excellent and draws you into the tradition and hidden secrets of the Oldest House.  The beautifully crafted cutscenes help get the important narrative points through.  Yet even small bits of dialogue with minor characters turn out to be just as interesting.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, Control exudes atmosphere.  The restlessness of the unfolding events bleeds and causes a real sense of discomfort. Based on the narrative it is a smooth and satisfying combat system.  The primary weapon in the player&#8217;s armory is the service weapon.  This is a special firearm that you can modify to suit a variety of combat needs and situations.  It&#8217;s also a supernatural weapon, combining with a whole collection of spooky abilities that Jesse can use.  Combat isn&#8217;t as impressive as other action-adventure games.  However, this is definitely the best of Remedy.  The blend of supernatural powers and shooting works very well. <\/p>\n<p><center class=\"native_ad\"><\/p>\n<p>\t<!-- Composite Start --><\/p>\n<p>\t<!-- Composite End --><br \/>\n<\/center><\/p>\n<p>An important part of this comes from the great variety of enemies.  There are so many different types of opponents to face that you constantly have to adapt.  In this sense, it is best to specialize your skills and abilities in one area, so that you have solid strength you can rely on.  Generalization might seem like a good idea for addressing several threats.  But it will assure you that you have nothing that you are really good at taking advantage of. <\/p>\n<p>On the downside, many of the puzzles in the game aren&#8217;t exactly great examples of the genre.  Too often they take much longer than they should to fix.  This wouldn&#8217;t be a problem in most games, but it drags you out of the story.  Control&#8217;s puzzles feel like an afterthought more than anything and stick out like a sore thumb.  More should have been done to integrate them into the narrative.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/forum.sbenny.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/1649628503_598_Control-review.jpg\" alt=\"Control review |  Gammick\" class=\"wp-image-5676\"><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Presentation<\/h2>\n<p>Remedy clearly spent a lot of time on Control&#8217;s graphics.  A great example of this is how Control uses light.  Experienced filmmakers know how to use light in a shoot to tell a story for itself.  After all, a picture can paint more than a thousand words.  By subtly manipulating the light in a scene, the game manages to skillfully shift your focus and change the mood. <\/p>\n<p>Applauding attention to detail also seems appropriate.  Every inch of the world seems like the creators put a lot of care and attention into designing it.  Control goes hand in hand with a realistic visual style, particularly for environments and textures.  This helps the supernatural elements to stand out even more when they arise.  They have a much greater impact when they fold the world around them and look really out of place.<\/p>\n<p>The character models are almost as good even if they lack a bit of ultra-realism.  What is striking, however, is the animation of each individual.  Everything is smooth and authentic.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, Control also has a wide range of technical problems.  These issues hinder presentation and keep you from being fully immersed.  Frame rate drops are common, causing noticeable stuttering of the action.  There are also some obvious bugs, such as the map not loading or the objects disappearing from the environments.  Nothing brain teaser, but enough to cause a lot of annoyance. <\/p>\n<h2>Final verdict<\/h2>\n<p>It&#8217;s easy to recommend Control as one of the most amazing games of 2019. It has a compelling and intriguing story that you really want to uncover.  Unlike other games, this narrative hasn&#8217;t simply been attacked as a way for you to explore the gameplay.  It is the integral component of the title that comes to a rewarding and complete conclusion.
