But this game has personally possessed me with joy!<\/p>\n<p>Released in 2013, Luigi&#8217;s Mansion: Dark Moon (aka Luigi&#8217;s Mansion 2) is the sequel to the 2001 original. However, this silly spin-off series continues to show why we need to treat Mario&#8217;s younger brother with more respect.  Luigi&#8217;s Mansion: Dark Moon proves that green really can be gold.<\/p>\n<h2>Who will you call?  Luigi!<\/h2>\n<p>Much of the personality that radiates from Luigi&#8217;s Mansion: Dark Moon<em> <\/em>derives from its titular protagonist.  Luigi might seem like one of the most unlikely and reluctant heroes in Nintendo&#8217;s mascot room.  But Professor E. They made me sympathize and laugh at his many misfortunes.  Everything from his hasty running animation to his terrified expressions made me smile.  And they make sure this ghoul and ghost-filled game never takes itself too seriously.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h2>Presentation<\/h2>\n<p>Dark Moon&#8217;s impressive graphics continue that attention to detail.  The compact art style brings each of the five mansions to life.  There&#8217;s a cartoonish aesthetic that leans heavily on Halloween and haunted house iconography.  The mansions themselves are distinguished by interesting themes.  Furthermore, the same level of commitment is reserved for individual rooms.  Dusty basements feel suitably creepy and insulating.  Meanwhile, the libraries appear to belong to Disney&#8217;s <em>The beauty and the Beast<\/em>.<\/p><div id=\"forum-1387535711\" class=\"forum-content-3 forum-entity-placement\">\t\t<div class=\"ad-wrapper\" style=\"width:100%;min-height:250px;text-align:center\">\r\n\t\t\t<!-- In Article Blog -->\r\n\t\t\t<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n\t\t\t\t style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\"\r\n\t\t\t\t data-ad-layout=\"in-article\"\r\n\t\t\t\t data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n\t\t\t\t data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3476569516614521\"\r\n\t\t\t\t data-ad-slot=\"9829044906\"><\/ins>\r\n\t\t\t<script>\r\n\t\t\t\t (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n\t\t\t<\/script>\r\n\t\t<\/div><\/div>\n<p>Dark Moon&#8217;s implementation of the 3D slider adds some depth to the look of the game<em>.<\/em> So, if you&#8217;re the type of gamer who likes to activate that feature, then the game has you covered well.<\/p>\n<p>However, I struggled slightly with the ghost designs.  Their simplicity is iconic, but it feels repetitive after a while.  Meanwhile, the spooky, though certainly humble soundtrack can fade into the background or get slightly jarring after a long play session.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/forum.sbenny.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/1650025669_781_Luigis-Mansion-Dark-Moon-Review.png\" alt=\"Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon Review |  Gammick\" class=\"wp-image-1775\"><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<h2>The gameplay, or the vacuum cleaner is mightier than the sword  <\/h2>\n<p>Luigi&#8217;s Mansion: Dark Moon builds on the basics of the first game.  Luigi, equipped with his handy flashlight and Pultergust 5000, must clear the five mansions of their haunted haunts in hopes of putting the Dark Moon back together.  Developer Next Level Games draws on a truly compelling formula.  It involves exploring these mansions while sucking in all the stray ghosts.  There are also various objectives that need to be completed.  These range from clearing webs to defeating a particularly powerful Boo.<\/p>\n<p><center class=\"native_ad\"><\/p>\n<p>\t<!-- Composite Start --><\/p>\n<p>\t<!-- Composite End --><br \/>\n<\/center><\/p>\n<p>Unearth hidden secrets within Dark Moon<em> <\/em>highly interactive levels have become my obsession.  In fact, probing every room for money or well-hidden Gems took a good chunk of my time.  However, I found the drive for exploration to be the main reason for making my way through the game.  The evolving capabilities of the equipment have continued to open up new approaches to discovering potential goodies.<\/p>\n<p>The actual act of the ghost catcher remains a frenzied dance of stunning and sucking in the undead who do not cooperate.  And the creative ways in which different types of ghosts require certain approaches to defeat them mean that this act never gets stale.<\/p>\n<p>I was worried that the controls might suffer from not having a second analog stick.  However, the developers cleverly get around this limitation with dedicated buttons to point up and down.  Hence, things never get unmanageable when the situation gets complicated.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, the ScareScraper mode allows for cooperative multiplayer and represents a fun, if superficial, diversion from the main campaign.  The different mini-games include a gauntlet-like ghost hunting mode and a quest to track down the adorable canine ghost Polterpup.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/forum.sbenny.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/1650025669_989_Luigis-Mansion-Dark-Moon-Review.png\" alt=\"Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon Review |  Gammick\" class=\"wp-image-1774\"><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Stimulation<\/h2>\n<p>My biggest complaint with Dark Moon is the way it&#8217;s structured.  Instead of having the option to explore the entire mansion in a single visit, the game disrupts your progress by segmenting the levels into the smaller objectives I mentioned earlier.  These segments allow entry only to a predetermined part of the building.  Worse still, Luigi always ends these segments by being teleported to the Professor&#8217;s Laboratory.<\/p>\n<p>I understand this structure is to encourage small sized play sessions appropriate for handheld games.  However, they disrupt the flow of the game and feel like a disservice to the cleverly designed levels. <\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, E. Gadd&#8217;s constant communication with Luigi has always taken me out of the atmosphere of the moment.  It just feels more padding for a game that suffers from a frustrating pace by design.<\/p>\n<h2>Final verdict<\/h2>\n<p>Even though the third installment of this franchise will be out soon for Nintendo Switch, it&#8217;s still worth returning to Luigi&#8217;s Mansion: Dark Moon, whether it&#8217;s your first time or you&#8217;re a returning player looking to unearth all those precious stones.<\/p>\n<p>While I found the gameplay structure frustrating, once I was in the mansions, I couldn&#8217;t put the game down and had to grab the 3DS loader on more than one occasion.
