From 28 December 2024, every phone, tablet, camera, headset, portable game console, portable speaker, e-reader, keyboard, mouse and portable navigation system sold in the EU will need to have a Port USB Type-C. If the charge is more than 15W, you also need to build in USB power.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\ud83d\udd0c The Directive (EU) 2022\/2380 relating to the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/CommonCharger?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#CommonCharger<\/a> for mobile devices is published in <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/OfficialJournal?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Official Gazette<\/a><br \/>It will come into force on 12\/27\/2022<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udcf1 https:\/\/t.co\/BeZS5J2tYc<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ThisIsTheEU?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#ThisIsTheEU<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Sustainability?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Sustainability<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/IMCO?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#IMCO<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/SingleMarket?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Single Market<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/3IuTarhkVs\">pic.twitter.com\/3IuTarhkVs<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 EUR-Lex (@EURLex) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EURLex\/status\/1600753041728102400?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 8, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This will obviously affect Apple, as the media has widely reported ever since the law was just an idea, but not only that: other device makers will have to ensure USB-PD compatibility if their products charge at speeds above 15W Also, this directive only covers wired charging, so Apple could simply decide to remove the charging port from its iPhones altogether and rely only on wireless charging.  That wouldn&#8217;t put him in breach of these regulations, and it&#8217;s a move that&#8217;s been talked about many times already.<\/p>\n<p> From April 28, 2026, the same provisions regarding the use of USB Type-C will also apply to laptops.
