Innovative games like Star Conflict challenge the very definition of MMO.  They don&#8217;t have to consist of a team competition like Overwatch or a fantasy realm like World of Warcraft.  Star Conflict proves that an MMO can combine peaceful creation and space exploration with fierce PvP combat and still be successful.<\/p>\n<h2>History<\/h2>\n<p>The Star Conflict story is simple.  It has been thousands of years since humans left Earth and that period has seen numerous battles and conflicts.  The galaxy is currently divided between star empires and various mercenary groups with no allegiance to any specific planet.  As humanity continues to explore, it stumbles upon sector 1337, a dead zone.  There are signs of previous battles and conflicts by the aliens who once lived there.  The factions are now fighting for control of this area and you can decide which side to stand on. Rather than interacting with the characters created by the game, you will primarily team up or fight against other players connected via the Steam network.  The point where PvP can go terribly wrong is when you find yourself up against someone who can hopelessly overtake you.  When you are at an early level, you stand no chance against someone who has been leveling for weeks.  To combat this, Star Conflict implements a tier range limit.  You can only interact with other players who are in the same level as you.  This makes it difficult when you are at the first step of a new range of levels, but it is less frustrating.<\/p>\n<p>There are a few PvE missions available, as well as a story mode that was released in 2014. In this &#8220;open space&#8221; mode, you can warp around the universe through strategically placed gates.  Your ship needs to be modified specifically to visit many of them. Where you go and what you do is entirely up to you and how far you are willing to explore the depths of space.  You can join factions, side with mercenaries, or save falling cities.  Create your own ship, custom built by you to fit the way you want to play.  You are not stuck in a specific path in this game, which gives it a huge attraction.<\/p>\n<p><center class=\"native_ad\"><\/p>\n<p>\t<!-- Composite Start --><\/p>\n<p>\t<!-- Composite End --><br \/>\n<\/center><\/p>\n<p>It may take a moment to get used to the controls in Star Conflict, but that&#8217;s not necessarily a bad thing.  Many games with this style have limited movement, either via forced mission line tracking or cumbersome movement of your ship.  But here you are an ace, elite driver, the best of the best. You can also log in here to find a group for PvE experiences or create ships in your workshop.  Each level gives you more options for ships, money, materials and access to the world, as well as additional modules for the current ships on the bridge.  While many of these customizations are free, some are only made available to you by purchasing them in the in-game currency system.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/forum.sbenny.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/1650223762_102_Star-conflict-review.jpg\" alt=\"Star Conflict Review |  Gammick\" class=\"wp-image-530\"  ><\/figure>\n<h2>Final verdict<\/h2>\n<p>It&#8217;s worth noting that changes have been made to Star Conflict over the years and not all of them are popular.  Several players accuse the game of switching to what has been mockingly dubbed a &#8220;pay to win&#8221;, or P2W, format.  The charge is that it is nearly impossible to win in a large number of the game&#8217;s major battles without purchasing content.  Obviously the goal of a free-to-play game is to make money via in-game purchases, but a combination of this is not the case at the start of the game&#8217;s release and accusations that items available for purchase are impossible. to compete against in a purely free mode has lost some players Star Conflict.<\/p>\n<p>But the game remains completely free to play in the Steam store.  There is no monthly subscription or purchase price for the game.  There are in-game purchase options, but they&#8217;re not required to actually play the game itself despite P2W complaints.  If you are someone who is busy grinding skirmishes and racking up your PVP scores, you may need to invest in some in-game purchases to take on battleships and other loot items.
