The two companies previously signed a similar deal, which expired at the end of 2022.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"small-blockquote\">\n<p>Samsung is a leader in the smartphone industry and we are delighted to have reached an amicable settlement with them.  The agreement gives both companies the freedom to innovate and reflects the strength of Nokia&#8217;s patent portfolio, decades of investment in research and development, and contributions to cellular standards and other technologies.  &#8211; Jenni Lukander, President of Nokia Technologies <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The new agreement will see Samsung make royalty payments to Nokia for a multi-year period with an effective date of January 1, 2023.
