It is often encountered spontaneously in the pre-Alpine and Apennine areas, from 500 to 1,500 m above sea level.<br \/>Its preferred habitat is uncultivated meadows, both in partial shade and in full sun, the important thing is that it has a moist and well-drained soil.<br \/>The lovage name probably derives from the Latin <em>remove<\/em>= to remove, to alleviate.  The reference is perhaps to the ability of the plant to soothe small evils.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"La_pianta_di_levistico\">The lovage plant<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The <strong>lovage is a perennial herb plant<\/strong>. Conversely, if we are growing it in regions with very hot summers, it is better to place it in partial shade or provide for the use of a <u>shading net<\/u> to prevent the leaves from turning yellow.<span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-658\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span><span class=\"ezoic-ad medrectangle-4 medrectangle-4658 adtester-container adtester-container-658\" data-ez-name=\"coltivazionebiologica_it-medrectangle-4\"><span id=\"div-gpt-ad-coltivazionebiologica_it-medrectangle-4-0\" ezaw=\"580\" ezah=\"400\" style=\"position:relative;z-index:0;display:inline-block;padding:0;width:100%;max-width:1200px;margin-left:auto!important;margin-right:auto!important;min-height:90px;min-width:728px\" class=\"ezoic-ad\"><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"Terreno_ideale_dove_piantare\">Ideal soil for planting<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The lovage grows well in <u>agricultural land<\/u> loose, deep and fresh, with a good amount of organic substance.  Instead, it shuns those that are too clayey and asphyxiated, which give rise to water stagnation.<br \/>During the <u>soil preparation<\/u> it is advisable to amend mature organic fertilizer, it can be seasoned manure, but also of <u>home compost<\/u> or <u>earthworm humus<\/u>.<\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"Semina\">Sowing<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The maturation of the <strong>lovage seeds<\/strong> occurs in early autumn.  This is a good time to start cultivation, starting with planting in the seedbed.<br \/>The budding is very slow and the growth in this period is not very fast.  Then the <u>seedlings protected in seedbeds<\/u> and then transplant them in the ground, after about 3 months.<br \/>The plant is ready when it is at least 15-20 cm tall.<br \/>An excellent month for transplanting in open ground is February.<br \/>There <u>direct sowing<\/u> it can instead take place at the end of winter, with a subsequent thinning.<br \/>Of the <u>good seeds can be found here<\/u>.<br \/>Adult plants are very voluminous. It is therefore possible to intervene with periodicals <u>weeding<\/u>or with natural mulch with <u>straw<\/u>, <u>jute<\/u> or <u>wool<\/u>.<span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-663\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"Raccolta\">Collection<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>There <strong>collection of lovage leaves and stems<\/strong> it usually begins in June and continues, in a scaled way, throughout the winter.<br \/>The plant continually rejects and takes advantage of the cut of the flower stem in late summer.<br \/>It is advisable to remove the outer and well enlarged leaves.<br \/>The large rhizome is also edible and is harvested starting from the second year of the plant&#8217;s life, preferably in autumn.<br \/>The rhizome is divided in half and dried in a dry and ventilated place.
