Huawei will be bringing satellite messaging to its foldable Mate Xs 2 later this week. The brand will host a special developer conference in China on November 5th where it will share more details on the Mate Xs 2’s Beidou satellite support. What’s noteworthy is that this would be the first foldable phone to support short message communication via satellite.
The feature will be used for emergency situations when there is no network coverage, allowing users to share their location with local authorities and / or friends. And just like on the Mate 50 series it will only work in China. You will only be able to send outgoing messages without being able to receive them. Huawei is working to bring two-way satellite communication via SMS and voice calls in the future.
