Based on one of the oldest tales in Japanese culture, The Tale of Princess Kaguya by Isao Takahata harnesses the strength of a legend's protagonist to deliver incisive messages to a contemporary audience. Despite the delicate stroke and pastel color palette, this animation should not be underestimated. Using the traditional technique of animation, drawing frame by frame, Takahata not only provides an aesthetic experience that seems innovative in the eyes of those who are used to digital animation, but also conveys the feeling of freedom of an artist who has before him a White screen. No adaptation is an easy process. Giving contemporary life to such an ancient story without resorting to anachronisms is a challenge.
