Sony, the company behind PlayStation, has revealed plans to release the games for the near future. On its annual investor day, the company said half of its stocks should be on PC or mobile by 2025, which will subsequently lead to a reduction in the share of PS versions.
Currently, only 10% of Sony titles are available for mobile devices and in three years they are expected to double and represent 20%.
Sony Interactive Entertainment Jim Ryan said expanding the presence on PC and mobile devices, in addition to live services, will give “the opportunity to move from a situation of presence in a very narrow segment” of the gaming scene to a situation in which Sony is “pretty much everywhere”.
He didn’t say anything about the PlayStation 4 specifically, but according to the official slides, the launches will be phased out by 2025, which is unsurprising since the PlayStation 5 has been out for some time. Looking back, Sony has done the same with the PS3, which was quietly sidelined two years after the official PS4 launch.
The expansion to mobile will take place through a new business unit within Sony IE, led by former Apple Arcade content chief Nicola Sebastiani.
