If you watch the Galaxy S22 and S22 Ultra teardown video, you will see that the Ultra has brought a new, larger vapor chamber to cool its chipset. The little S22? It only had graphite bearings (you can also watch this video for the S22). Samsung has expanded the vapor chambers this year and even gave one to the humble Galaxy S23.

Check out this animation posted by Ice universe showing the growth from last year’s S22 series to the new models announced yesterday. You can see how much bigger the cameras of the Galaxy S23+ and S23 Ultra have gotten.

If you prefer, you can take a look at these static images instead:

Last year, the Galaxy S22 failed to maintain peak performance for very long, even though it was fine-tuned and gracefully degraded (more details in our review). This year the little S23 should last longer thanks to improved cooling and of course the more efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset for Galaxy manufactured by TSMC.

Further performance improvements come from the fastest RAM – LPDDR5X, which runs at 8.5Gbps, compared to 6.4Gbps for the original non-X variant.
