Link to the content you're reviewing on our site (optional): Dragon Quest: Legacy of the Lost, an indie RPG game for RPG Maker VX :: rpgmaker.net

A heartful and surprisingly well made fangame to the original 6 Dragon Quest/Warrior games. Heavily inspired by the first six games for it's turn based battling system and 2-Dimensional overworld.

Review:
An RPGMaker game that follows the setup that the Dragon Quest games originally had, with NES inspired graphics.

Review:
Below is a rating system out of 5 ⭐. The rating system is as follows. 1⭐ is Terrible, 2⭐ is Poor But Tolerable, 3⭐ is Average or Mediocre, 4⭐ is Good or Enjoyable, while 5⭐ is Amazing. I will be rating Graphics, Sound, Storyline (If it has one), Bugs/Glitches, Challenge, Replay-ability, as well as Stream Entertaining.

-=- Graphics -=-
⭐⭐⭐ : This game is heavily inspired by it's fandom. It follows the formula, sprite design, and setup as the first three Dragon Warrior Games from the Nintendo Entertainment system. Most of the sprites are heavily original but still manage to mesh quite well with the 32 Bit design they originally intended to follow. The texts in the game are quite close to what the original Dragon Warrior game used.

-=- Sound -=-
⭐⭐⭐ : It's unfortunately a Dragon Quest/Warrior game even if inspired by the fandom. It follows a repetitive mix of music that you can enjoy for awhile but does start to get boring quickly. The sound effects however are spot on. You'll enjoy new places and probably turn music on, only to turn them back off in the overworld.

-=- Storyline -=-
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ : The part that any good Dragon Quest/Warrior game truly excels in, the story. You begin with seeing a King get turned into a Lich, and the game only gets harder from there. If you've played any Dragon Quest/Warrior game from early in the franchise; you'd know how crazy it gets once you actually complete the first few quests. You fight everything from underpants stealing hammerhoods to crazed slimes who like to lick stone. It's all got backstory, and it's all there to make you laugh or enjoy the game. As you progress further into it, you'll get enthralled by the actual story and find out what really happened to that King I mentioned earlier.

-=- Bugs/Glitches -=-
⭐⭐⭐⭐ : Surprisingly very few glitches. The final patch of the game fixes the remaining glitches and balances some spells that were a bit too overbearing.

-=- Challenge -=-
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ : The game is an NES inspired fan game. Expect lots of grinding to overcome challenges, poisonious flooring, angry noises as the enemy critical hits your healer using that 1% chance; then come back for more. It is a challenging game if not for the collection aspect alone (Gotta fill that bestiary, right?); but also for the fact that there are hidden dungeons. Enjoy the game as a passive player who casually walks through the storyline or a hard-line completionist aiming for 100%.

-=- Replay-ability -=-
⭐⭐⭐ : While you can replay the game starting out as a different class; the game remains much the same as do the challenges. If you want to enjoy the story; it is worth the tale. Unfortunately, it does not add much to the enjoyment.

-=- Stream Entertaining -=-
⭐⭐ : While you may get a person or two watching you play this; you would probably play this for yourself. It has very little appeal to the masses and there are many other Dragon Quest/Warrior games that are not retro or fandom-based.

-=- Overall Rating -=-
⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Would you recommend this to other users? If you got the time to spare to grind and play old-school RPGs, then yes. This is a glorious game that doesn't get the credit it deserves. It's free, it's well made, it fits perfectly in with the stories from the original games as well as the style. It does exactly what the original games did before they changed the formula in VII on the Playstation consoles. You will enjoy it.

Rating (1-5): ⭐⭐⭐⭐
