Games is not waste of time.....

Yesterday, while setting on the couch, my 7 years old son is playing fortnight with his online friends on the mobile....
It took me back 13 years ago when I used to play Medal of honor with my actual friends in the net-cafe in our area, I remember my win & loses , my joy & shouts , and how we used to beat whoever used the forbidden weapon (bazoka).
So, to the people who say games is waste of time, if all what I will get from games is memories like this then it is worth it.
If you have memories like this, tell us the game and let us all remember

You are absolutely right. Thats something we constantly need to remind ourselfs about in these times.
It seems current enviorment tries its best to make us feel bad for practicing our hobbies and using our free timefor ourselfs. (Especially in America, i feel sorry for you guys.)

I am one of the millions people whose best childhood memories come from No. 1 game- Minecraft.

You see, i wasnt a well-liked kid in school. Half of that was my own fault, sadly. But what was happening was a lot for an 12 year old kid to handle. (i was bullied from first grade all the way to seventh but 5th grade was the very worst.)

But when i finally got home, i could sit down and play on my favorite server- Tomikcraft for 1.7.2
There never was a lot of people, at most around 12 but we were all really close-knit.
I talked to them about everything and they always gave me advice and support.

My best memory is finding the Ender portal all on my own and all my friends just going ape over it. It was like Dungeons & Dragons and we made our little tale about our journey to slay the mightly beast.

Then there is the memory of Tomik, the server owner and dear friend, building me a house... And me promptly burning it down, becouse i messed up building fireplace. I covered the damage with wool and the whole ordeal seemed absolutely hilarious to him.

And then it shut down, 2 years or so later. I was devastated but used the resources and advice i got there to brave through without it.
Once again, years later, i do some searching and stumble upon it again, now re-newed.

It was named after me.

I think that without those guys, i would leave school in a much worse mental state than i did.
I have notoriously bad memory but this post brought some of them back. I couldnt be more grateful.

Aaaw, I'm glad video games helped you out with your mental state @Morava, I hope you're in a good place right now 😊

As for me, no one gave me a hard time for playing video games, even my parents. I remember my parents gave me my ds for christmas and it was the most wonderful gift ever. Looking back, it was my parents' way of rewarding good behavior, like when I get good grades in school, my parents will buy me a new game cartridge. Because of this, I was motivated to do good in school just to get those sweet sweet games, especially with my fave harvest moon games.

Video games have become a big part of my life, that's how I met my bestfriend. In middleschool, he bragged about his ps3 in class and I just had to see for myself if it's as great as he said it was. We became fast friends after playing castle crashers over at his house.

So all in all, I agree with you OP @Egymams85 on this one, playing video games is not a waste of time. As my mom once said: Time spent having fun is time well spent 😁

One of the best video game related memories I have is with Residen Evil 4 the game cube version I remember that when they gave me that console, they gave it to me with that game and others.

The first time I played it I already had a game recorded and I played that game, but I was so scared that I couldn't play for more than 5 minutes and I took it away. I was 12 years old at that time. around 8 months I had the courage to play it. but starting a new game, at first I felt a little scared. but after a few hours playing it I started to like it, it took me a long time to spend the whole game the first time, around 3 months.

Today, I don't know why I was so scared the first time, I think it was because of the atmosphere, but today it is one of my favorite games I have completed it more than 50 times, even I have completed it in less than one day. I've played it on every console I've ever had, and I always have fun playing it.

Unfortunately the game cube was damaged and the game cd.

I do not have a good command of English, I have used a translator. If some parts do not understand, I apologize and thank you for taking the time to read my story.

If you're truly enjoying doing an activity then it's not a waste of time.

Games can be a waste of time to someone who doesn't enjoy playing games. Different people, different likes. Sad to hear about your game cube being damaged

Not long ago I stumbled upon a scientific article which said that games have a significant positive effect on children as gaming greatly stimulates brain development. Say, they try to circumvent different gaming obstacles and ask other gamers for help. In the long run it brings them much benefit!

I don't usually rain on people's parade but.... games has its own black and white though possibly even its grey area.
Games can offer things you can't expect from any forms of media.. like your son did, he had a blast with his friends and they get closer yet far physically that's awesome!
Put my case too, Games saved me from my depression, It sounds pathetic right? But not for me it gave me a reason to look forward on the future specifically it made me more aware on really cool technology and that is a part of the reason why i became an electronics engineer partly of the reason also is it is a very versatile course that can take me from a consumer electronics repairman to rocket scientist specializing in deep space electronics that doesn't fry or decay too quickly in space.
But then why did i say it has a black and white ethics? Simple for every person that inspires something like mine did they're is a person out there who play it on a hedonistic level, they play for the fun alone like drug addiction levels fun. Trust me i experienced it personally but it starts to change when i go further on playing mainstream games. What mainstream games you say? CSGO, DOTA 2, LOL, Rip-off PUBGs, Old FPS classics like the CrossFire if anyone knows it I played them all like everyone in the school did, i got addicted i still do right now but not in a way where it was last time like playing the same damn map, same damn hero or gun and doing it for who knows how many damn long i did like insanity is, they're some others who're insane enough that they become truly good at it (*cough* pro players) but they ain't us and then again people like them started as us though the only difference between them and us is they're dedicated, passionate and has talent on it which simply no one mostly has on themselves i know people who's so obssessive about it, it dragged their life down.
I'm sure they're more good things games can do, And i'm pretty sure games isn't entirely good after all i calculated all the hours i wasted on myself playing Koikatsu or Gal games and i got a whopping enough number of time to learn guns, self-defense or hell even basic programming or 3D modelling was it worth it? Possibly, I had fun on it.
In the end of the day, Myself alone is responsible whether my time is meaningful or not whether it is good or not is debatable that's why parents and friends are important....
Sadly due to me being overly attached on games since it inspired me, I got less and less social interaction to people even though my repertoire of knowledge expands and so to my favorite technical knowledge i'm still not a specialist myself i seriously lack behind on knowledge unlike the people on the community i am on. They have clear passion and dedication to it, I usually can't talk about it on a normal case by case basis i mean what does someone who have a hard on scifi and tech on people who usually talk about celebrities, basketball, mainstream music and people's business and an occassional slip of government politics (which they will backtrack btw if someone starts going too deep on it *e.g. Me) but then again social media exist and i don't particular feel like needing strong bonds, I'm fairly satisfied in forums and channels that encourage discussions (Perhaps my case too could be a detriment on games but all in all its from someone so it's their responsibility to take action on it)
Anyway this has been a very long rant or something, I already said my case hopefully someone reads this and realize something for the good or bad maybe...
