Name of the movie you are reviewing: Matilda
A young girl in a very nice neighbourhood is growing up with not very nice parents and an even worse school principal. She discovers she has magic powers, and even better, an adult she can count on.
Review:
Matilda is possibly my favourite movie ever. It's a children's classic based off of a beloved book and it consistently provides kids with the message that I desperately needed: You are not alone.
Raised with terrible parents that don't seem to care about her or her interest to better herself and no friends, Matilda is immediately what one would think of as a completely secluded character from the world. To remedy this, Matilda learned to read at a young age and take herself to other world's with better people in them. When she is finally sent to school it's a huge opportunity, but we meet Miss Trunchbull and once again feel hopelessness that Matilda will get the love and attention she deserves.
But school has friends, and learning, and books, and Miss Honey. Miss Honey is the teacher children dream of; loving, understanding, smart, and kind. Miss Honey adores Matilda immediately, but with the odds stacked against this child she realizes she needs to support her from afar. And Matilda supports Miss Honey in return.
Soon, Matilda makes a discovery. She has powers of telekinesis, harnessed when she thinks of the adults in her life that have shouted at and mistreated her. She gets to have her fun for a while, then uses these powers to overpower the horrible principal and get Miss Honey back her beloved doll that Miss Trunchbull stole from her when she was young. And as payment, Miss Honey adopts Matilda into her home and away from her awful parents.
A movie that starts hopeless and lonely ends loving and supportive.
