Ever since the original anime adaptation Fujio Akatsuka's Osomatsu-Kun came out in 1989, there has been a modest but increased interest in his comedy containing the Matsuno Sextuplets. The seemingly simple comedy anime has surprisingly captured many hearts of those in the modern era through providing a modified retelling of the original in an altered way that's suitable for a contemporary audience. The film provides several interesting aspects and fills in periods of the Sextuplets life, explaining their growth from Osomatsu-Kun (1989) to Osomatsu-San (2015). The insight into the Matsuno Sextuplets younger days of their high school lives and personalities to the drastic juxtaposition of their past selves with the current is very entertaining and supplies an overly optimistic and somewhat nonsensical plot. The plot, without going into spoilers, could have been better. The plot was crafted in a way purely for existing fan satisfaction. There was almost a certain self-insert quality to it which was jarring to say the least. To fully enjoy this film, I had to recognise it for what it is, additional content for fans of Osomatsu-San (2015) and not a stand-alone. For movies like these you can't really watch them for the plot, instead its solely dependant of additional canonical knowledge for existing fans, therefore its important to have watched the original Osomatsu-San (2015) before watching this movie for maximum enjoyment. Overall the film gives an amusing sort of explanation for how the Matsuno sextuplets transformed from their synonymous nature to the beloved idiosyncratic NEETs adored today.
Would you recommend this to other users? I would only recommend this film to audiences who have already viewed the original Osomatsu-San series as the target market who would gain the most entertainment out of this movie, even then, those who don't watch aren't exactly missing out on some cinematic masterpiece.
