This visual novel investigates the crime behind serial murders of mystic creatures with superpowers. The game is branched into 44 endings by users' choices, few of which are timed. The storyline, character development, art, SFX & BGM, and app control left much to be desired.

Review:
Mystic Code follows Lieutenant Laura (changeable) and her 4 superhuman co-workers to capture a serial killer. Along the way, she encounters 3 mystic citizens with unexpected links to the crimes. Despite the team's (and your) best efforts, more victims are killed as the truth unfolds.

The main storyline includes a prologue and 25 chapters, after which is either a normal, happy or hidden end. Most endings have very vague tips for what went wrong, considering there are 2-5 decisions per chapter without being able to undo until reaching any ending. Every 2-3 chapter, new murder cases occur or very old ones referred, dumping lots of info along the way. The mystery itself is hardly surprising, especially towards endings. The normal & happy endings give away the culprit but leave the logic hanging in the air. Side stories should be included there as they supplement the main story with logic. A few flashbacks are dropped randomly without connection to the story development. The only good thing is the pacing as the story alters between tense detective work and chill conversations.

Characters are uninteresting and cardboard-cutting. It feels as if only the main and Elliott made significant contribution to the investigation, while the rest just followed along. Only Justin, Ansel and Christopher had somewhat backstories, but none had any development. I couldn't connect or sympathize with anyone after reaching several endings.

Art is consistently anime style. All facial features look proportional and rather Korean. Clothing doesn't add much to characters' personality, but at least is easy on the eyes.

BGM is unimpressive, but ok on loop. SFX fits well with the story.

The lack of skip read, save and load functionalities made replays highly tedious even for avid VN players. It's still possible to fast forward by tapping the Auto button twice, but even that pauses when the screen fades in or out. Players can skip to chapter 3 after finishing 1 normal or happy end.Very brief notes can be reviewed on the blackboard, accessed by swiping right on home page. They terribly need better consolidation into a mind map with logical conclusions.

Every character has 1 voiced over line when he/she first appears except for the main. Their first 2 ep chats are also voiced. However, all the chats are *very very very* dull conversations with <10 exchange texts.

Would you recommend this to other users?
For hardcored mystery fans... Totally no

For otome fans... No, unless you really like any specific character and don't expect anything more than some flirty banters.

For VN players... maybe if you're super curious and patient.

For casual gamers... I'd rather not.
