Name of the movie you are reviewing: The Girl Who Played With Fire (2009)

The Girl Who Played With Fire is a 2009 Swedish crime thriller movie. It is based on the second book of a novel trilogy named the Millenium series. The movie continues the story of Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist after the first movie, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

Review:
This movie is the second installment in the trilogy based on the three books of the Millenium series. Lisbeth and Mikael had gone their separate ways since we last saw them and in this movie we focus on their individual stories. Lisbeth faces a crisis as she is trapped and framed by unknown entities and her past comes back to haunt her. Blomkvist struggles with his own role in the following debacle as a journalist who has a platform and sway over public opinion.

Noomi Rapace and Michael Nyqvist are once again perfect in their roles as Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist respectively. The dynamic between their characters, whether they share the screen or not, is one of the strong points of this series. Another major selling point of this movie is the story. The supporting cast is marvelous as well and the production is so consistent with the previous installment that they could've been a tv show. As per the rules of a sequel, it expands the world the first movie introduced, explores the characters' backstories and makes the scale of the conflict bigger. New characters are introduced who elevate the tension and open new plotlines. Almost all the old characters return to further develop their story arc. Once again we have an interesting crime to solve and lives at stake.

Would you recommend this to other users? Yes of course, how can you not after watching the first one? I highly recommend watching the first movie before this one, or a lot of things might not make sense. This movie is a bridge between the first and the final movie so prepare for a bunch of exposition and plot development for the final showdown. Also like the previous installment, it is R-rated and has trigger warnings, so watch at your own risk. This movie is actually less graphic and has no strong scenes like the first film but references many mature topics. People who like political and conspiracy movies will enjoy it a lot.
Trigger warnings if needed:
Rating(1-5): ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Bellissimo, soprattutto dopo aver letto il libro! Non lo rispetta al 100% ma capisco la necessità cinematografica di tagliare e comprimere alcune parti.
