Two very different men are thrown together to look after an island lighthouse in 1890s New England. It's not long before the isolation of the two men, and the island itself, begins taking its toll.

Review:
The acting by Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson is, of course, amazing in and of itself. There's no disputing that. Unfortunately, it’s mired in a film that was quite literally, by director Robert Eggers’ own admission, made more convoluted for the sake of being more convoluted. His intention was apparently to make the audience feel like it was going mad. Well, it would seem that he succeeded. Unfortunately, not in a good way.
The film is a retelling of an altercation between the Greek Gods Proteus and Prometheus. When the humans disobeyed the Gods, the Greek Gods took fire away from the humans. Prometheus steals it back, incurring a punishment all his own. He’s chained to a rock where an eagle is sent each day to eat his liver. The liver grows back overnight, and the cycle repeats itself day after day. Again, unfortunately, the movie’s plot is nowhere near as clear-cut as this, and suffers relentlessly because of it.
The director seemed driven enough, even insisting on filming in actual torrential conditions, and his heart very well may have been in the right place, regardless of his insistence on confusing his audience. Fortunately, the amazing actors he had to perform it seemed just as dedicated, the movie's only saving grace.

Would you recommend this to other users? I would not recommend this for anyone but the most die-hard Willem Dafoe or Robert Pattinson fan. It’s simply too jumbled and baffling for its own good.
