Review:
This is a relatively short book but do not be fooled by the number of pages, it is the kind of book that gives profound insight into what feminism means in the modern times. It cannot be just read, its message needs to be meditated upon.

The book is filled with anecdotes and analyses of what it means to be a feminist, much of which has been garnered from the experience of the author in Nigerian society. She is a reformed-feminist who “present alternatives that improve women's situations, holding true that improvement within given structures is possible.” She is outspoken in breaking down gender-based discrimination. Being labeled a “feminist” usually has negative connotations but the author argues that this is to be unapologetically embraced for women to be given the respect and equal treatment that they deserve. The respect and elevated status shown to men, usually emanating from traditionally paternalistic viewpoints, needs to be addressed explicitly if society were to reach equality. It does not help for men to see women being treated as invisible and say and do nothing.

I think it is a must read for everyone. If you are raising a daughter, share it with her so that she grows up to demand the respect she deserves. If you are raising a son, share it with him so that he grows up with a healthy respect for women and learns to further the feminist agenda.

Would you recommend this to other users? I would definitely recommend this book.
