As much as EA has tried to break into the basketball market in recent years, it has failed to completely stop the dominance of the 2K series. With NBA Live 19 they try to end the reign of that series. There is a lot of work to be done, but can EA get close to overthrowing the 2K basketball empire?
Exercise
For anyone new to basketball games or those unfamiliar with the way NBA Live does things, an extensive tutorial is available from the main menu. This section provides an excellent summary of each game mechanic in the game and offers plenty of opportunities to practice.
There are countless drills and 1v1 sessions to hone these skills. After a short period of training, you should have a good understanding of everything you need to know on the pitch. It’s a welcome addition and done in a more subtle way than many other tutorials.

Game
So how good is the gameplay? For one thing, it’s pretty intuitive. Even without the in-depth “Learn to Play” section, you can resume and start a basketball game without any real problems.
Without the intricacies of the 2K series, NBA Live 19 can simply go wild with fun. This mindset works well considering how fast basketball is.
However, AI opponents have their problems occasionally and make decisions that seem downright strange. Constantly seeing a defender foul is not uncommon and can take away the flow. Yet there is still a fluidity in the teams moving up and down the pitch as defense is constantly transformed into attack. In that regard, this title has nailed that aspect of its real-life counterpart.
