Game

As a game mode, Firestorm mirrors its gender competitors. Players spawn in an aircraft hangar. They are free to run and kill time as the game loads and players log into the server.

Once the game begins, players are taken into Ju-52 transport planes to parachute themselves into the game map: Halvøy. Halvøy is a Scandinavian peninsula made up of coastal towns, rolling hills and snow-covered plains.

Battle Royale levels have to be big to take into account so many players, but this can’t be underestimated: Halvøy is huge. It’s easily the largest map in the entire series, and navigating it feels like an effort.

Maps

Don’t expect a map you might find in Fortnite. Halvøy is gigantic, but less diverse in its landscape. It doesn’t feel like a bunch of unique places enclosed in playable boundaries. Instead, the positions seem a little more organic in their arrangement.

Unfortunately, this makes it seem a little bland – landmarks are few and far between, especially since Halvøy isn’t very dense. However, the open spaces add some tension. Some players may even find that stealth is preferable to open combat, more so than in other battle royale games. A ring of fire surrounds the area, creating the narrowing boundary of the map and forcing players to stay in the center over time.
