Conner is one of three perspectives you take on as the story unfolds. He is a hand-made android to help with detective work, specifically to help the police department determine why some androids have gone rogue. He is assigned the role of partner to Hank, a grizzled old cop who hates androids. It is through their interactions with the other two narrators that he begins to understand what it means to be human from the perspective of someone who is not given that title.


The story really varies a lot from the opening scenes depending on the choices you make. Some choices made in the first act affect the final scenes of the game. They may open doors for you or limit your options. But regardless of the choices you make, ultimately Detroit: Become Human is a story about what humanity means. Many people have wondered if it is more nature or education that makes us who we are, and this game attempts to answer that.

The most interesting thing is the way the game poses the answer. Just like reality, it’s not black or white. The way you act and treat others doesn’t always reflect on you. Some people are just bad, be they human or android. Most people are somewhere in between and their motives and there is no real answer. Whether nature or upbringing is dominant, or whether your character is an android predetermines their humanity, depends entirely on the choices you make and how you see the world.
