History
While Gears of War 4 may not have been that extraordinary, it plays an important role. The previous game introduced most of the main players into the current campaign. This time take control of Kait Diaz. The story sees her, along with JD, Del, and Marcus Fenix, form a new Delta Squad in the COG army.
Gears 5 easily tells the most mature and interesting story in the history of the franchise. It’s refreshing to see writers willing to explore darker, sometimes political, themes. The game examines the brutalities of war in detail. In particular, it puts the actions of some of the heroes of the series under the microscope to address criticism. There are also some really scary moments, reminiscent of the horror elements from the first Gears of War game. Unfortunately, many of these more serious moments lose their impact when followed by more silly scenes.
Making Kait the protagonist was an inspired decision. He is a captivating and recognizable character, full of charisma and empathy. Basically, she is the perfect lead role. Some of the previous characters in this series were empty vessels. People of the likes of JD and Marcus can be boring and flat individuals who have no depth to them. This is not true of Kait, who develops as she progresses through the campaign. On the sidelines, the rest of the cast also has the opportunity to express themselves more.
