Criticism
The mechanics of Red Dead Redemption 2 are most likely the only real downfall of the game. Since there are only a certain number of buttons assigned to each controller on a given console, some buttons are mapped to more than one action. However, the idea of making a button both “talk” and “shoot” is ridiculously unfortunate when it comes to speaking in Valentine, the little cattle town.

There are also too many games within this game. We don’t need Poker and Dominoes. We don’t need cigarette cards and collectible photographs. When I felt I had finally collected all the tasks I could potentially look for, I completely lost all interest. They were overwhelming and uninteresting. I don’t want to shave in a game. I don’t want to bathe in a game. Even with these boring elements, I still treasured this experience because, ultimately, they are optional.
Final verdict
If you have the means and the time, you should go out and retire Red Dead Redemption 2 immediately. The investment is high, but if you meet this game on its terms, it is very rewarding. The story is brilliant. The pace is relaxing. The gunfights are wild. Arthur Morgan will forever live as one of the great video game characters, and for good reason.
