Things not so good
Despite the revamp that the Secret World has undergone for Secret World Legends, some aspects still seem outdated. Apparently Funcom has reworked the combat, but I can’t say because fighting in Legends feels clunky. As such, PVP content offers little engagement.
Despite playing on a PC that can handle VR with ease, frequent frame drops have plagued my experience. An annoyance came during a main story mission where the objective required me to enter a new area, but was blocked until I managed to grind four more levels.
Thankfully, the secondary content doesn’t drop in quality from the main mission, but not being able to bring the story to my pace was frustrating. Overall, it appears that the boundaries of the MMO structure take away what could be a truly amazing single-player RPG.
Final verdict
Secret World Legends somehow remains a well-kept secret, failing to achieve large-scale popularity despite some of the best writing I’ve ever seen in an MMO. You might attribute this to the dated look of the game, as well as frequent bugs and glitches that ruin the otherwise compelling experience.
If you’re willing to look past the imperfections, you can’t beat the amazing world building and characters offered by Secret World Legends, especially in the free MMO market. Try it today on Steam or SecretWorldLegends.com.
