Counterpoint Research has published its results and forecasts for the shipments of chipsets for smartphones capacity capacity. Generative or genai artificial intelligence is a capture term for text, image, audio and video models and these chipsets have a hardware acceleration for them instead of having to download the activity in the cloud.
Chipsets capacity of Genai will constitute 35% of all the smartphone chipsets that will be shipped this year, provides for the counterpoint. It would be a 74% increase on an annual basis compared to 2024.
Interestingly, Apple is the leader with a 46%scheduled share, followed by Qualcomm with 35%and MediaTek with 12%.
Almost all (88%) of the Premium chipsets to be sent this year support Genai, a 53% yoy growth led by the arrival of new flagships from the main sellers: Apple A19 (Pro), Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and Dimensy 9500.
However, this is not an exclusive feature of flagships. The segment of mid-range smartphones ($ 300- $ 499) is witnessing rapid growth-a 3-time increase compared to last year-and this year will constitute 38% of the total number of Cape of Genai phones.
These are based on chips from the Snapdragon 7 and 6 series and of the Dimensery 8000 series. Qualcomm drives the segment with a 57%share.
