Xiaomi Sound Play is a functional and beautiful 18W Bluetooth speaker. It is available in black, white, purple and green and costs €50.

The speaker weighs 415 grams and is IP68 rated, so you shouldn’t worry about the inclusion of dust and water. There is TWS stereo pair support, so you can set up two to get stereo audio. And there’s Auracast support too, so you can pair up to 100 speakers to play simultaneously.

There are three buttons on the front: volume up, play/pause and volume down. Then, on the back, you find a covered USB-C port, a power and Bluetooth button, the Auracast button, and a special button to control the lights on the speaker.

There are two lights inside the speaker: a bottom ambient light and an infinity mirror light. You can choose between orange, blue, green and purple, and the lights can sync to music.

The infinity mirror light is really beautiful. You can see how it unfolds in the cavernous interior of the speaker. It is especially impressive in the dark.

There is a small top handle that you can use to carry the speaker around. You can also use it to attach the speaker to a backpack or bicycle.

The speaker is shaped like a can or bottle of around 400ml, making it ideal for a backpack pocket or even a bicycle bottle cage.

Okay, a few words about sound quality. On Xiaomi Sound Play there is a single full-range speaker with a nominal power of 18 W.

The sound is optimized for clarity and overall listening with an emphasis on vocals and midrange. The bass stays in its lane and doesn’t bleed into the mids. Basically, you get a confident, crowd-pleasing tuning that’s suitable for most musical styles.

The volume is ample: the speaker pleasantly fills a normal room even at 60-70% volume. Going above 90% you will start to hear some audible distortion with most tracks.
