Arcade1Up’s arcade replicas have been a big hit, but these replica cabinets have always been smaller than the real ones. Now, the company has announced an upcoming “Pro Series” of full-size arcade cabinet replicas.
This announcement came at CES 2022. The company was quick to clarify that this new line would not replace the old line. Rather, the Pro series will be a new product line that will offer along with the more familiar dimensions. That existing line includes the traditional machines (which are 75% the size of the original), the Junior machines (smaller models aimed at children), the electronic pinball machine, and the Infinite Game Table (which allows players to play games desktops).
The first game in the Arcade1Up Pro series is the 90s fighting game Killer Instinct. Those who buy it will appreciate a full-sized cabinet, 19-inch monitor, and SuzoHapp buttons (which are a major upgrade over older cabinet buttons).
While Killer Instinct is the biggest draw, this cabinet will also allow you to play Killer Instinct 2, Battletoads Arcade, and even 8- and 16-bit versions of the classic Battletoads game. But all of this won’t be cheap – it looks like Pro Series cabinets will cost $ 1,000 a piece. At that price, true arcade lovers can weigh the costs and benefits of buying this cabinet versus building their own Raspberry Pi or MiSTER-based arcade cabinet and play thousands of other arcade games.
If you want something more affordable, Arcade1Up has announced three more traditional cabinets due out in 2022, each built around the theme of a singular company. Then, there will be a Bandai-Namco cabinet (with Pac-Man and 13 other titles), a Midway cabinet (with Mortal Kombat and 13 other titles) and Atari (with Centipede and 13 other titles).
Each of these have two more games than their previous cabinets and show that Arcade1Up is sensitive to gamers looking to play multiple machines per game. Over time, we may get more titles in the Pro Series cabinets to help justify the higher price tag.
