In video games, mysterious countdown timers are usually a bad thing. However, a mysterious new counter appeared on the Capcom website that wowed many gamers.
It looks like the counter will hit zero on February 20/21 at 10pm PT / 1am ET, at which point we’ll see which game is revealed. While the mystery game could be anything, the smart bet appears to be a new Street Fighter game.
The main proof of this theory is that Capcom’s Street Fighter Pro Tour, a three-day combat event, will end at the exact time the countdown is completed. Additionally, the Street Fighter franchise is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. And in a Japanese tweet last month, the company teased the future development of other Street Fighter games.
However, a new Street Fighter game isn’t a guarantee. Street Fighter V came out in 2016 and Capcom has not commented on the active development of Street Fighter VI. There’s a good chance the mystery game could be something like a new Resident Evil title, and some fans have pointed out that the countdown font resembles the iconic Resident Evil font.
