CD Projekt said it cannot guarantee Cyberpunk 2077 or The Witcher 3 will launch on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S this year.
While CD Projekt is still aiming for late 2021 releases, the developer told shareholders during a recent earnings call that targets may be missed.
According to a report by Video Games Chronicle, the reason for a possible delay of Cyberpunk 2077 is because the studio is working hard to make sure it doesn’t repeat the mistakes it made with the initial launch of the game on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
“The goal is to release the next generation version of Cyberpunk 2077 by the end of the year,” said Michał Nowakowski, senior vice president of business development. “At the same time, bearing in mind the lessons we have learned over the past year and bearing in mind that this project is still in development, we cannot say with full confidence that the production schedule will not change.”
That game was widely criticized by gamers and suffered a number of glitches and glitches, which eventually forced Sony to remove it from sale on the PlayStation Store. The studio has spent much of the past year fixing the title to address these issues.
Nowakowski also said that while a next-generation version for The Witcher 3 is slated for late 2021, it could also be postponed until 2022. Although development for this port is handled by Saber Interactive, an equally cautious approach is being taken as CD Project. “The development process is ongoing and we cannot be absolutely certain that the release schedule will not change,” said Nowakowski.
“We are definitely aiming with both titles for the end of 2021 and I don’t want to be more specific right now.”
