Final Fantasy 14 will receive its 5.5 patch on April 13th. That’s the same day the game goes into open beta on PlayStation 5.

The game has been available for PS4 players and those players can transfer their existing characters and data for the beta. Those who play on PS5 can expect features like haptic feedback, better frame rates, faster load times, and 4K resolution.

We still don’t know exactly when the game will officially launch on PS5. The official announcement will be made on Lodestone after the completion of the beta. And those participating in the beta can count on the transfer of their characters and data to the game after launch.

How can you check the beta on PS5? There are just a few simple steps you will need to take.

If you are completely new to the game, go to the PlayStation Store PS5 and the FF14 page. There, select “Final Fantasy 14 Free Trial” to download the client and then start the game. This will allow you to explore everything players can typically explore during a free trial.

If you already play on PS4, go to the PS5 PlayStation Store and the FF14 page. There, you have to select and download “Final Fantasy PS5 Upgrade Edition (beta version).” You can then launch the game and have access to everything you can already access on the PS4 version.

There has probably never been a better time to check out this game. If you decide to stay as a player now, you’ll be in a good position to explore the Endwalker expansion that will arrive in the game later this fall.
