System of the social strand

Death Stranding’s story and gameplay are interesting enough to be successful. However, the thing that really makes this game unique is the “Social Strand System” which promises to create a new genre. Whether or not this will turn into a trend remains to be seen. The possibility is certainly there, though.
To talk about this, I need to explain the Social Strand System. Basically, it’s the multiplayer component of Death Stranding. Although it’s not multiplayer as you might traditionally think about it. You will have an impact on other players’ games and they will leave their marks on yours too. However, it’s all mutually beneficial.
The idea behind this mechanic is unity: help your fellow players while they help you. There are a few ways this can be done. Most commonly, you will find resources left behind or built by other players. These can be ladders, vehicles, or even entire stretches of road made to be used by anyone who encounters them.
These connections with other players marry well with Death Stranding’s general focus on unity and interaction. The online component creates bonds between players. The feeling of helping someone is pleasant, and the relief of finding very affordable equipment left behind by another is always pleasant.
Final verdict
Death Stranding is a strange experience. I believe it can be quite memorable for the right person, however. The routine-driven moment-to-moment gameplay will undoubtedly turn many off. Those who enjoy the routine may find it strangely relaxing, especially when the Social Strand System is used for the benefit of everyone involved.
All in all, Death Stranding is flawed in a number of ways, but there’s still a lot to love about the story, characters, and world Sam Porter Bridges is involved in. Death Stranding is currently available on PS4 and will arrive on PC in summer 2020.
