Presentation

One of the most impressive things about Grand Theft Auto IV is that the world of Liberty City truly feels like a real city. It is a compelling environment that you feel is alive. People go about their daily routines, and Liberty City seems to continue to operate around you as the story unfolds. It’s a truly impressive achievement and is easily one of the best open worlds of that generation.

But the graphics aren’t the best you can find in a video game from that era. However, they are very good for an open world title with such a big world. They are especially impressive during rain and intense action sequences.

Even better is the audio. Whether it’s the collection of radio stations playing great tunes or the exquisite sound effects, everything has a high grade of quality.

Undoubtedly the main problem with Grand Theft Auto IV, though, is that it’s just too gloomy. There is none of the color and character that were present in games like Vice City. Therefore, the whole world of Liberty City feels cold. Everything is gray or brown, to the extent that you appreciate the variety you get from the extravagant cars.

Grand Theft Auto IV uses a somber color palette

Final verdict

Almost everyone who played in 2008 will have played Grand Theft Auto IV. It’s a truly amazing title that excels at creating a world that is alive and breathing around you.

There are a lot of minor issues preventing it from being a perfect game, but it’s as close to realistically as possible. Despite more than 10 years having passed since the original release, Grand Theft Auto IV is still something everyone should try.
