Presentation

The mere fact that the original Mafia launched in 2002 means that a simple remaster was never in the pipeline. The graphics would seem too dated considering that it is a title of the PlayStation 2 era.

To compensate for this, Hangar 13 has undertaken a complete rework from scratch. While this decision means a lot more work for the developer, it’s definitely worth it for the end result.

Simply put, Mafia: Definitive Edition looks absolutely fantastic. There is an incredible amount of detail in virtually every part of the game. Whether it’s the expansive landscapes, the towering horizons, or just the gorgeous character models, it’s hard to find fault.

Perhaps the best example of this is at night when it rains. The lighting system and sophisticated behind-the-scenes technology really shine, delivering realistic reflections and shadows.

An almost perfect soundtrack supports the excellent graphics. Remember to The Godfather movie, the soundtrack was re-recorded to give it even more gravity.

Meanwhile, radio stations can give Grand Theft Auto a run for its money. While there is no humor or radio whimsy in that series, they feel authentic and genuine.

Of course, the voice acting is just as good as last time. Although some people may prefer the work of the older actors from the original title.
