Looting

Looting is a much longer process than other battle royale games, as the buildings are larger, with more levels and more complexity. Players can spend much more time searching for an ideal gear, as there are dozens of accessories they can use to customize any weapon.

On the plus side, this means there’s a variety of loot and tons of storage space in the backpacks to hold it. Players can choose from extended magazines and other attachments, but they don’t automatically attach like they do in games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 | Blackout or Apex Legends.

But even with all the time spent looting, the game can be over in an instant. Typically, this happens when an enemy sneaks around the corner, surprising the player and causing him to die with grenades. As in all BR games, a player can be mowed down by someone with an AR out of thin air.

Mechanics

The mechanics in PUBG don’t flow as smoothly as they do in some of the new additions to the BR genre, but there’s still a lot to love. Power-ups can come in the form of energy drinks and pain relievers, a nod to a dose of humor in this pseudo-realistic scenario. In fact, there’s also the possibility of hitting someone dead with a frying pan, which at one point was subject to a bug that made it the most powerful weapon in the game. The PUBG development team is well aware that any gamer fan loves an Easter egg or two. Additionally, a player has the ability to switch between first-person and third-person views and lean left and right, options that aren’t available in most BR games.

Final verdict

While perhaps not ideal, it is possible to play PUBG on a phone or iPad and still perform quite well. This is because, despite all its nuances, it is a very easy game to grasp.

Even at this stage of development, PUBG players can expect some level of glitches or visual errors. For example, in a recent game, falling into a popular area created visual errors that made it impossible to tell where the buildings were until several seconds after I landed. And knowing where the buildings are is extremely important in this game.

Overall, PUBG is essentially a look at the bare bones of the battle royale genre. Regardless of which BR game a person chooses to play, it is important to understand that it has its roots in PUBG. Whether you’re a fan of the slow style or prefer something more fast-paced and heavier, it’s important to see PUBG for what it is: the start of something bigger than itself that has built an avid and dedicated fan base.
