A bold narrative
One of the reasons why the first Knights of the Ancient Republic were so successful is that they copied the Star Wars formula perfectly. Despite taking place in the distant past, the game was filled with pure Jedi, evil Sith, revelations about the main character … oh, and did I mention that control of the galaxy was at stake?
Knights of the Old Republic 2 subverts much of this. Not only is the game more quiet and personal, it forces you to examine the Jedi in a whole new light. In fact, many players leave this game wondering if fans have really been cheering on bad guys all these years because we’ve been fueled by Jedi propaganda!
This is a big part of why this game is divisive. If you want an epic game where good overrides evil, the first game will be more to your liking. If you want a game that isn’t afraid of humanizing villains and demonizing heroes, KOTOR 2 will be the best game you’ve ever played.

Final verdict
I ignored the elephant in the room when it comes to KOTOR 2. And here it is: this game has been severely rushed.
Large chunks of content (including entire planets and their missions) have been cut out of this game so that it was originally shipped on time. And that makes some parts (especially the ending) feel very rushed.
However, some good news: it took modders years to restore as much of this content as possible. And if you play this game via Steam, you can easily activate those reset mods before starting.
This allows you to play the fullest version of the game possible at no extra cost!
In conclusion, KOTOR 2 is great. Seriously, stop reading this now and go buy it! Don’t blame me if you end up replaying it once or twice a year.
