Variable difficulty

In its own way, Wolfenstein: Youngblood simulates war better than most games. This is a mixed blessing, though, as it leads to some seriously varying difficulties.

When you’re playing with a friend, the added challenge is actually a welcome addition. It forces you to coordinate a strategy and makes your final victory much sweeter.

When playing alone, however, it can be quite difficult to coordinate with your AI partner. As a result, playing solo in this game is much more difficult than in The New Order.

Only this side of the formula

How much does Bethesda change the formula in this game? The short answer is “just enough to get you noticed”.

The main difference is the wide variety of side missions. In this game, you have one main goal: to break into the district towers and get vital information about the Nazis. And nothing prevents you from attempting to storm the tower as soon as possible, although you are likely to die trying.

You can make things a lot easier by taking on several side missions. These give you both information and updates that make the big attack a lot easier.

Aside from the importance of these side missions, the actual gameplay will be familiar to all fans of The New Order. This game is still all about small maps and facing an army of Nazis. And while it may be bad to admit it, finding new ways to kill Nais is still an incredible thrill, even after all these years.

Final verdict

Wolfenstein: Is Youngblood worth your time? With most players, the answer is “yes”. For FPS fans, this is a solid shooter. For fans of the franchise, this doesn’t stray too far from the winning formula. However, those who disliked The New Order are unlikely to convert from the violent antics of BJ Blazkowicz’s daughters.
