Nostalgia Inside Nostalgia

Do you like a little nostalgia with your games? Zombie Army 4 is making a “nostalgia start” of sorts, taking its love of the past to truly wacky levels.

The first layer of nostalgia comes from its WWII influence. You are not only fighting the zombies, but you are fighting the Nazi zombies. The game gets to the point of throwing a horde of Hitler zombies at you at a fairly climaxing moment.

At the same time, this is an alternate reality to ours (the whole “zombie Hitler” thing was probably your first clue). So, even for WWII buffs, there are some surprises here.

The second layer of nostalgia comes from the game’s clear love of the 80s. The loading screens are all fake movie posters. Look closely and you can see the influence of 80s monster movies on each one.

In this game you also hear a lot (and I mean a lot) of synthesized music. In another era, it may have been an odd choice, but I like to think Stranger things made the synth cool again.

Silly tone

It may already be clear, but I go ahead and say it: this is not a game that takes itself too seriously.

Each level is all about throwing more and more exaggerated enemies at you and finding more and more insane ways to get rid of them. And while you might think the “jump the shark” game is when you’re literally feeding zombies undead sharks, the whimsical adventure has just begun.

Basically, if you liked it Night of the Living Dead more than Dawn of the deadthis game is for you.
