A new Bloomberg report has revealed that Naughty Dog is working on a remake of The Last of Us.
The project originally started three years ago at Sony’s Visual Arts Service Group, with studio founder Michael Mumbauer recruiting a team of around 30 people. However, Sony subsequently moved development of the PlayStation 5 remake to Naughty Dog. Mumbauer has since left the Visual Arts Service Group along with several other high profile developers.
The remake stunned many in the industry, especially considering that a PS4 version of the game was released in 2014. This suggests that the remake will only be able to slightly improve the look and performance of a game that still holds up quite well today.
The same report also indicates that Sony Bend had launched a sequel to Days Gone but that Sony refused to give the green light to the project. Instead, he tasked the developer with developing a new Uncharted game and assisting Naughty Dog with a multiplayer version.
However, several influential members of the Sony Bend team have talked about work on the Uncharted series, ultimately leading the studio to work on their own idea for a new game.
