Sony was previously very proud to have great exclusive games for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Now, many of these games will be directed to PC, including the hit title Days Gone.

This news comes from a GQ interview with Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, released on Tuesday. During the interview, Ryan said that the idea of releasing more proprietary titles on PC was a “straight decision”. Sony has since confirmed that Days Gone will be one of the first PC ports.

Why, though, has Sony changed its stance on keeping games exclusive … well … exclusive? According to Ryan, “We are now at the start of 2021 with our development studios and the games making in better shape than ever before. Particularly since the second half of the PS4 cycle, our studios have been making wonderful and fantastic games “.

And, in a nutshell, porting to PC means inviting a much wider audience to some of Sony’s hottest games. Ryan continued: “There is an opportunity to expose these great games to a wider audience and recognize the economics of game development, which aren’t always straightforward. The cost of creating games increases with each cycle, as the caliber of the IP has improved. Also, our ease of making it available to non-console owners has grown. So it’s a fairly simple decision for us to make. “

If you’re excited about this news, you basically have to thank Horizon Zero Dawn. Sony brought this game to PC in 2020 and it was a huge success. Ryan simply noted that PC gamers “liked it and bought it” and the company realized what a great opportunity it could be to bring more titles. And for PlayStation gamers, there was no real sour grapes on PC gamers getting their hands on previously exclusive titles.
