There are no two ways for this, the iPhone Air is one of the most interesting Apple devices in recent memory. A nod to the first MacBook Air that has revolutionized the laptop design, the air is the thinnest phone of Apple to date and we have one in our hands.
Let’s do the obvious at the bottom: it is extraordinarily slender. But how thin is 5.6 mm? Well, take a look at yourself.
In the photo above it is at the top of the iPhone 17 Pro Max. The difference of 3.2 mm seems even more substantial in person. But the camera plateau (which is Apple Talk for cumpuglie) extends the total thickness of the phone to 11.3 mm.
The air feels well in hand and is perfectly balanced. It is extraordinary that Apple managed to adapt to practically all the key components of the iPhone Air in said camera plateau. Unfortunately, the single 48 MP camera is a little disappointment, even if Apple says it is equivalent to having four goals. Despite the thin design, you still get the dedicated camera and action buttons.
Our sky blue unit is a rather opaque shade and looks closer to white according to lighting. As for the unboxing experience, the air is available in a slightly thinner box than the rest of the new phones. But just like them, the only accessory you get is a woven USB-C cable.
The weight of 165 grams seems incredibly light for an iPhone, in particular if compared with the new lot. However, we saw the competitors reach the weight in the middle of 150 grams, so it is not a completely new experience. It is also the only new iPhone with a titanium frame, which until last year was the premium material in the speech of Apple’s public relations. The frame is truly lucid and gives a nod to the days in stainless steel of iPhone 13 Pro and 14 pro generations.
Apple iPhone 17 Air
The 6.5 -inch display looks like the perfect size. Not too small like the 6.3 -inch iPhone 17 and 17 Pro, and not excessively large as 6.9 -inch Pro Max. However, it is an OLED LTPO Super Retina XDR panel with promotion, which means a 1-120Hz variable update frequency.
Despite the thin design, the air obtains an A19 pro chip with 12 GB of RAM just like the 17 pro models, even if it is a slightly less capable version. It will certainly be interesting to see how the air behaves under stress, given the obvious physical constraints and the lack of a dedicated steam chamber.
