Apple has struck a deal with Chinese display maker BOE, industry insiders have revealed. The contract is worth CNY 50 million and is for 25% of the OLED displays, designated for the vanilla iPhone 14 smartphone. BOE will only supply 6.1-inch panels, meaning the larger iPhone 14 Max and iPhone Pro duo will still use screens exclusively, manufactured by LG and Samsung.

This is the first time that BOE will provide panels for the current generation iPhone, Chinese media sources pointed out. The display manufacturer has produced replacement versions as well as panels for previous generation iPhones.
This information comes just weeks after reports from South Korea that BOE is also preparing to supply OLED panels for future iPads and Macbooks. In order to meet Apple’s needs for future contracts, BOE will expand its B16 plant in Sichuan and equip it with the adequate power needed to produce the required number of OLED panels.

The report also recalled that BOE had its best year since it began working on such panels. The annual results revealed that BOE pushed nearly 60 million OLEDs, an increase of 60%, taking the company to number one in China and second in the world after the undisputed leader Samsung.
