Just a couple of days ago, we reported that Samsung is moving fast with the development of its microLED panel for smartwatches and some believe that Apple will use them for its future series of watches. However, the latest report also throws LG Display into the mix.

Apple may turn to LG for microLED smartwatch displays

An industry source says LG Display has already started operations and is producing microLED screen backplanes in small quantities. Production will likely begin in the second half of 2024, so the first Apple Watch with a microLED display should arrive in 2025.

This contradicts Samsung’s recent microLED production report, as analysts believe LG’s rival will be ready with its own displays as early as next year. It is possible that Samsung will use its proprietary technology for its Galaxy Watch range before supplying its microLEDs to Apple. Plus, Apple likes to diversify its supply chains, so it could strike a deal with both companies and introduce a microLED smartwatch in 2025.
