With Android 16, Google is preparing an important revision of design in line with the expressive design language of material 3. But instead of introducing the new look to all its apps, Google is gradually redesigning its basic apps. The most recent changes in the default telephone app have generated very Brusium lately.

In a short blog post, Google shows the new telephone app and explains why it is making these changes.
The first thing to note is that the new telephone app is much simpler and more streamlined. The overcrowded lower bar is only showing the “home”, the “keyboard” and the “vocal mail”. The filters such as lost calls, contacts and spams have been moved to the home card.
By the way, the Home card shares the space with your favorite contacts and shows the recent calls of calls. In addition, calls from the same contact are now shown separately.

The “contacts” tab has completely disappeared and the “Keypad” card takes the center and replaces the mobile action button. Dialer no longer follows you when you pass through a card in the phone app.
Last but not least, Google is experimenting with a new scrolling gesture to answer and refuse calls in order to reduce accidental responses or decrease when pulling the phone out of the pocket. However, Google is taking users’ suggestions, so scrolling gestures could change.
The app is available only for the beta testers for now, but it is possible that Google can release the new version before the start of Android 16.
