According to IDC’s latest PC market analysis, the PC market declined in the second quarter of this year by 15.3% year on year. On the bright side, it’s actually grown over the first quarter of 2023 by 5.9%. However, all PC market categories saw declines, with the notebook segment declining 18.5% YoY, while the desktop segment was smoother sailing with a 7% YoY decline .
Looking at the PC market as commercial and consumer, things aren’t even that good. The consumer segment was down 17% while the commercial segment was down 13.8% year over year.

There is a good trend in education and government segment as many Indian states are leading the PC market with government subsidized purchases. The education segment grew 43.7% year-on-year, while the growth of the government segment reached 8.2% year-on-year.
Of course, premium notebook shipments were 30.7% lower than a year earlier due to fewer business orders as the segment continues to struggle. Interestingly, the enterprise segment posted solid growth of 39% quarter-over-quarter, while it fell 15.8% year-over-year.
In terms of suppliers, HP leads the pack with a market share of 31.1%, mainly driven by the consumer and commercial segments. Lenovo came in second with a 16.2% share, but reported a 30.2% year-on-year drop in sales.
Dell took third place with 15.3% due to its rather strong performance in the commercial segment. Acer and Asus took the fourth and fifth positions, respectively, with only 11.4% and 7.2% market shares in the second quarter of 2023.
