Apple unveiled iOS 16 at yesterday’s WWDC event, which features, among other things, a major lock screen redesign. One change that wasn’t announced on stage is how you get past the lock screen: Face ID will work in landscape mode on “supported iPhone models”.
It’s unclear what they are right now, it could be as simple as “everything but the SE” or there could be limitations preventing older models with Face ID from getting support. This will become clear as iOS 16 approaches launch.

By the way, landscape mode will work for everything Face ID is used for, including logging into sites and approving purchases.
Landscape Face ID is not a new feature, some iPads have supported it for years now. But not iPhones, so that’s a welcome change nonetheless.
