As you may have heard, the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max are expected to cost $100 more than the 14 Pro pair. However, this may not be a direct price increase, as sources report that Apple will also increase storage capacities of the Pro models.
The iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max start at 128GB, go through 256GB and 512GB, and offer up to 1TB. According to the Weibo poster Red lotus technology, 15 Pro models will start at 256GB and get a new higher tier of 2TB storage. Korean blogger yeux1122 confirms the new maximum of 2TB, but not the base storage increase.
If you walk into an Apple Store right now, you’ll see that the 128GB iPhone 14 Pro costs $1,000, while the 256GB one costs $1,100. If the two rumors above are true, a 256GB 15 Pro will cost the same as a 256GB 14 Pro. Which is good, unless you’re hoping not to spend more than $1,000 on a new Pro.

Apple plays these kinds of shell games, for example the cheapest (non-SE) iPhone in 2020 cost the same as the cheapest (non-SE) iPhone in 2019, $700 either way. But there was a catch: In 2020, you were getting an iPhone 12 mini, not the larger iPhone 12, which was now $100 more expensive than its 2019 predecessor.
So there’s been a price increase, except if you look at it from the right angle, the prices have stayed the same. It will be interesting to see how this price increase, combined with forecasts that demand for the iPhone 15 will be lower than for the iPhone 14, affect Apple’s sales.
Note that there is a lot of guesswork involved right now, and rumors of stockpiling or price hikes could turn out to be false (or even both). But if prices go up, they will rise by different amounts in different regions and some regions will be hit worse than others.
