introduction
It’s embarrassing to be a middle child, they say. You’re not the eldest, you’re not the youngest, you just are There, in between, constantly forgotten: the eldest is the oldest and gets all the accolades, while the youngest is the smallest and demands a lot of attention. You, however, are neither.
This is where the Xiaomi 13 Pro sits. The 13 Ultra is the overachiever that collects accolades, the vanilla 13 is the only one in the series that will work well in small hands (or people who simply prefer the small size) .um – if not small in themselves – phones) and the 13 Pro… it also exists.

At least that’s the situation from afar. Look a little closer, use the 13 Pro for an extended period of time like we did for this review, and your perception changes. He’s more than just an awkward middle child. In fact, it’s probably nearly equal to the much-praised 13 Ultra, if you don’t really care about having the best of the best when it comes to cameras and screen brightness.
So while a cursory look at the three models might lead you to believe, we don’t think the 13 Pro was launched simply so that there wasn’t a huge price and spec gap between the 13 and 13 Ultra. It’s not only awkwardly assigned to arbitrarily fill that gap in the portfolio, but it’s self-contained, and we’ll let you know all the ways it does that in this long-term review.

To be honest, the Xiaomi 13 Pro surprised us, and this rarely happens anymore. When we say “surprised,” we mostly mean it in a good way: We definitely don’t think you should sleep on it. However, it does come with some now-standard Xiaomi issues which we’ll describe, so you know exactly what you’re getting if you’re thinking of buying one. So, without further ado, let’s get to the point. Join us on the next pages as we tell you what it’s been like to live day after day with the Xiaomi 13 Pro as our one and only smartphone.
