introduction

The Moto Edge range has undergone some changes in 2023, with all Edge 40 models boasting feature sets and capabilities that you’d expect to find in a model a level above what the name suggests. This is the case with the third version of this year’s series, the Edge 40 Neo.

The new Neo is very close to the ‘vanilla’ model in the roster: it practically reuses the same camera system as the Edge 40 and the excellent display also seems to be shared by the two. The Neo 2023 now features a fairly powerful chipset for a change – the previous generation was hampered a bit by an underpowered Snapdragon, while the new Dimensity seems to tick all the boxes. Fast charging and a notable battery capacity upgrade also look promising.

The IP68 rating, which initially looked like it might be a Pro-only feature, has been present on all three Edge 40s to date, a very welcome development from a manufacturer that hasn’t stood out for its popularity in recent years. ‘waterproof. Meanwhile, the unique colors that are part of the Pantone collaboration make the Neo even more physically attractive than its compact size and low weight alone can do.

It seems like a well-balanced offering from Motorola in the mid-range. We’re here to find out if it lives up to its potential.

Unboxing of the Motorola Edge 40 Neo

Just like all recent Moto Edges, the Edge 40 Neo arrives in a sturdy two-piece recycled cardboard box. No plastic is used even for the packaging of this model, as Motorola recently did for members of the range. Plus, an Edge staple, the box and its interior are scented, so you’ll be greeted with a subtle aroma when you unbox your brand new phone.

The package contents include a 68W adapter and a USB-C cable. Motorola didn’t forget about the case either: it’s a snap-on design with a color that matches the phone’s coloring. You will probably also appreciate the fact that it is made in Sweden and is of plant origin, therefore biodegradable.
