On December 1, Nothing began accepting signups for its upcoming open beta build of Nothing OS 1.5, based on Android 13. This came after the company was very open that a final build would not be available for Nothing Phone ( 1) owners this year.

Today, the first beta began rolling out to those who signed up to receive it. Nothing OS 1.5 comes with a new Weather app with Nothing custom UI, up to 50% faster app loading speed, more color schemes available to match 3rd party apps to wallpaper, a new QR code scanner in Quick Settings, a clipboard preview at the bottom of the screen for quick edits before pasting, and a new look for Media Control.

There’s also the ability to close active background apps from the notification area, a boost in background storage that reduces the wait for frequently used apps to load, a new self-repair feature that “keeps your phone ( 1) running like new” clearing unused apps cache and expired system dumps, improved quick settings with new network pop-ups and Bluetooth devices, a new volume control UI with easily adjustable sliders without the need to unlock screen and an improved game mode with a new UI for light notifications and Google Game Dashboard, which supports screenshots, screen recording, FPS display and Do Not Disturb.
